Adding a new/replacement blueberry bush

6-21-2024

Since I had 3 plants not thrive, due to my soil experiments, I started a new location for a new plant. I used the 3rd bed method, as described in the link above, for this plant.

I purchased a Perpetua plant, by Bushel and Berry. This one produces twice-a-year and it already has berries on it.

I had a 20″ plastic pot that I used to size the hole I was going to dig:

I also used this planter to measure the ingredients for the hole. I used the dirt that came out of the ground and mixed it with peat moss, acidifier, and perlite. (see this link for my soil test. This is Test 3)

Once I had the soil mixture ready I put some of it in the hole, added the plant, and then finished filling the hole. I then cutoff the top 6 inches of the plastic tub and used that as a barrier to keep the weeds and grass out, and topped it all off with pine bark mulch. It turned out quite nicely I think.
