Planted 5 pie-pumpkin seeds today. A buddy of mine gave them to me. They came from his garden last year. We will see how it goes this year. My plan is to train them up the ladder.

6-17-2024 The seeds have sprouted!

6-18-2024. I woke up this morning, checked on the pumpkins and holy cow! How much they have grown overnight! I also added a ‘cage’ of plastic fencing around them to keep the squirrels and rabbits out.

About 3 weeks in and the pumpkins are taking off! They really like the soil in this spot. For the past 10 or so years we have had a bird feeder in this spot and all of the sunflower shells dropped in this area and created a very fertile growing spot.
I planted 5 seeds and I pulled out the one in the middle to give the other 4 more room.
Sure hoping these produce some pumpkins!

I had to get rid of the ladder as a trellis option as I have too many plants for 1 ladder. I planted 5 seeds and they all took. I pulled up 1 plant to give the rest some room.
They have exploded in size and needed a more substantial trellis.
A guy was throwing out a metal gazebo that was new. He never used it and is moving. It doesn’t have a top but I took it anyway. Once I got home I realized I could use it as a trellis for the pumpkins. It will work perfectly.

The pumpkins are filling out the trellis quite rapidly. I have at least 6 pumpkins on the vine.

Picked these pumpkins over that last couple of days.
This one had 2 stems on it and had about 6 more that were dried up. I had to cut it in 2 places to harvest it.

These are the 3 that I have picked so far

There are at least 10 more pumpkins on the vine. I have 4 plants in this patch and I hope they all ripen up.

Bees doing the job of collecting pollen for home, and pollenating the pumpkins.

We ended up with a dozen pumpkins in 2024. Pretty happy about that. 2025 will bring more, and different, pumpkins.
